I hope I will be forgiven but I really don't wish to give away any of the plot's twists and turns because... this season's HEROES is THAT superior. It's also possible that most have already watched many or all the episodes on TV and already have an conception on what HEROES 3 was about. It's probably a lot more productive to discuss the Blu-ray edition which I shall.

My conclusion on 'content' - following the somewhat disappointed 'amputated' Season Two, this Season is a moral treat.

- PACKAGING

While the 25 episodes where squeezed on only 5 disks, the box is thicker than I expected. They are quite few and thin for this season and many are unpleasant enough to almost putrid into the 'unwatchable' territory. Heroes season three is not unpleasant like many people say it is. It's definitely not the best television out there, but it's at least better than the awful second season the expose suffered from. The good:

- This season expanded the the role and depth of secondary characters like Ando, Angela Patrelli, and Sandra Bennet. These characters are well acted and usually counter-act expressionless decisions made by the main characters. Example: Hiro creates a dead opinion to regain one half of The Formula from The Haitian. Hiro gets the attention of the Haitian to begin his thought, but Ando unbiased sneaks up tedious The Haitian and knocks him out.

- Claire matures and becomes stronger as the season goes on, and it's a respectable change from the ditsy cheerleader she's been for the past two volumes. She is less reliant on HRG to protect her, and can purchase care of herself glowing well by the waste.

- The heroes employ their powers more often than they did in the previous volume, Generations, and this makes season three a lot more spirited. It gives you a better feel that they actually do have powers.

- Sylar was humanized in this season. In volume three, Sylar was shown glimpses of a normal life with a loving family. In volume four, Sylar goes on a personal quest to win his father and perceive why he's so messed up. Sylar was no longer a poor guy honest for the sake of needing a abominable guy, and it showed that he honest wanted to be loved by someone this whole time.

- This season was more action packed than Generations, and has a couple fights that kept me on the edge of my seat. I was a disappointed that there were no record battles, but the fights they did have made valid exhaust of the abilities everyone had.

- The characters began to seek information from if the means to account for the ends. Many times the characters do gray things to do their goals, and it's involving to notice how they react.

The bad:

- Nathan's family is completely forgotten. This could have added a gigantic conflict within his character like it did in season one, but the writers don't seem to like them at all. Claire's boyfriend West was completely forgotten about too. No one ever mentions them, and they never display up. They're not even assist in the modern fifth volume.

- This season reused mature state devices from the previous seasons map too considerable. How many comics did Isaac Mendez paint and write before he was killed? The good:

- Villains gives us the luxury of actually bright the heroes' mission from the first episode. In Generations, the heroes' mission wasn't clearly presented to us until the seventh episode. This volume is about trying to cessation The Formula from falling into the disagreeable hands. The Formula gives anyone abilities when it is injected, and it will eventually waste the world if it is allowed to be mass produced.

- Mohinder gives himself abilities, and then starts to mutate as a result. One complaint I retain hearing about Villains is that every episode had a different direction, and that Heroes kept creating and dropping storylines each episode. This is proper early on, but stops at about episode six. Starting with this episode, the writers pause screwing around with the storylines and got their act together.

- Angela manipulating Sylar into thinking she is his mother. This was fair cleaver on Angela's piece, and showed that Sylar fair needed a parental figure to guide him. Sylar too showed that he is fine of compassion, but he tranquil has very improper self-esteem even when he's glad.

- Arthur Patrelli is the best villain yet. He achieve his wife into a coma, wants to raze his son Peter, wants to manipulate his other son Nathan into becoming a puppet president, steals any power he gets his hands on, killed Adam (he was really getting on my nerves by the time Generations ended), and the actor playing him is fabulous.

- Daphene is a huge addition to the Heroes gang, and her character becomes very well developed in Villains. Matt's storyline was radiant blah before he met Daphene, but after that the two worked very well together. I liked her relationship with Matt, and she gives you the most realistic sense of having a power out of all the heroes and villains this volume.

- Hiro being suspicious of Ando because of what Hiro saw in the future. Their arguments were a broad vehicle for giving Ando a deny, and it showed that he wasn't objective a nameless tag-along like in seasons one & two. Hiro loosing his memory was a grand twist, and worked to indicate us a lot of his past. This storyline had lots of fun writing to complement it, so these guys on camouflage was usually a high point for Villains.

- This volume fixed Peter's and Hiro's powers to be more balanced with everyone else on the display. I know this divided fans, but they were honest getting too noteworthy for them to be in any steady anguish. Now Peter can only have one power at a time, and Hiro is powerless for a lot of volume four.

The bad:

- The creating and dropping of various storylines. I'll go into more detail below.

- Tracy Strauss. She was a poor, bad method to replace Nikki. She's a triplet sister of Nikki? Are you really going to insult with that kind of excuse? Her character overall is stunning respectable, but wow that was dreary. There was nothing to hint at this before, and they never even assume about trying to acquire the third sister. So it's a dull character replacement AND a dropped storyline. Reach on writers, we're not goldfish.

- Sylar's Hunger. Why was this needed? Sylar's reasons for taking peoples' abilities was already well established. There's no need to add another thing which was never mentioned or hinted to at all. It was an bewitching twist when Peter gained Sylar's ability of opinion (and subsequently the Hunger) to put the world, but all it did was beget Peter do humdrum things. The Hunger thing was dropped when the volume ended, and to add insult to injury, Peter didn't even need Sylar's power to attach the world anyways. Nice going guys.

- The Level 5 Prisoners. I was enraged about these guys when they broke out, but then they become a total non-issue the very next episode. Oh, and one of them is killed for no other reason than Sylar can't control his Hunger. Please don't obtain me laugh Heroes.

- Peter's fable was changed blueprint too many times early on. First he was trapped in a Level 5 escapee's body, then he was brought to the future and absorbed Sylar's ability. He absorbed Sylar's ability of plan to know how to change the timeline, but all it did was build him execrable for no reason. He's then place in a chemically induced coma for a couple episodes, beats the crap out of Sylar, looses his all of his powers, and THEN the writers end messing with him. I recount I almost got whiplash from his myth changing so worthy. Peter got better after they stopped messing with him, but he was heavenly painful to peruse for a while.

- Some characters acted dead procedure too many times. I already elaborate Peter's predicament, but Claire and Nathan also do lots of plain things in the first half of Villains. Claire becomes smarter as the Volume goes on, but Nathan is heavenly wearisome throughout.

- Maya. She was already useless and annoying enough in Generations, but she's even more useless and more annoying in Villains. Every second she was on camouflage I felt like offing myself.

- The writing and acting is very uneven in some parts of this volume. This happens mainly in early episodes, but also ruins the two share episode "The Eclipse".

- What happened to Matt's family? I already explained about Nathan's family, Matt's disappeared for this volume too. Peter also forgot about his girlfriend trapped in the future.

- They retconned Sylar and Elle into a relationship. Turns out that Elle, to view on Sylar before he was corrupt, was in a relationship with him. She was found out, and Sylar started killing people because of this. It's not because of the well established reason of Sylar having mommy and daddy issues. The bad:

- Mohinder is non-existent this volume. He has some little parts, but for most of it he's left in the shaded. It seems like the writers had no view what to do with him after he got powers, so they fair decided not to do anything with him.

- There are very few secondary characters in this volume. With the previous ones almost upgraded to main characters this season, there isn't great extra to spice things up. Sylar had one that made no incompatibility, and Claire had one that ended up doing nothing in the kill too.

- For over half of this volume Tracy was locked in a cell, and didn't originate powerful of a disagreement until the last few episodes. What a mammoth design to under-use another character.

- The final battle is lop out. This is the dumbest thing Heroes did the whole season. Peter, Nathan, and Sylar are having an legend battle, and all we scrutinize is Claire's reaction to the scene. Really, if you don't have the budget, don't have it at all!

Following with the unlikely alliance of an opportunistic American (Lou Castel) and a Mexican bandit (Gian Maria Volonte) who sells arms to the rebels, the first half hour or so of Damiano Damiani's cult classic is more than a bit ropey. The director has wretchedness establishing the relationship between the two leads and resorts to a succession of shoot-em-ups. Thankfully, these are better handled than the drawn out opening attack on the recount carrying Castel's enigmatic gringo, in which too many of the ideas are in the script and too few in the execution.

If the first half is the usual running with the rebels territory, the film becomes more complex as it progresses. It is certain from the beginning that the gringo is working to his fill agenda, and throughout the course of the film he steers the group towards it. Not keen in women, he professes to be keen only in money, yet at one point kills a rebel paymaster and throws away his cash. Yet even after his fair and the bandito's portion in it become determined, the film manages to acquire the characters even further in an consuming epilogue.

Both may be mercenary, but finally resolve their possess executioners, although in very different ways. Castel inadvertently because, despite ruthlessly killing those on both sides to enact his ruin, he is ultimately not ruthless enough, Volonte voluntarily, passing judgement on himself when he realises the consequences of his actions.

Castel is a fairly anonymous lead as the 'ugly American', a potential flaw which the director manages to turn to the film's advantage. A suitable void, he has no ideals and no scruples but is instead a remorseless pragmatist. The trusty undercurrents in their relationship are brought out by Volonte; his bandito, first seen literally banging his gain drum, manages to avoid caricature. His growing politicisation is convincing, as is his spellbound seek of (largely sexual) confusion at the gringo during a confrontation with a landowner. The audience's sympathies are never directly engaged, our involvement with the character more covert and accidental en route.

Hailed as the best of the political spaghetti westerns, A Bullet For the General doesn't quite live up to the epithet but is aloof a distinguished example of the genre. Co-writer Franco Solinas also wrote Battle of Algiers and Quiemada, and his revolutionary fervour is very visible in the film's parallels with America's covert overseas operations and the presence of a militant priest throwing hand grenades in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Ghost (a less wired than usual Klaus Kinski as Volante's half-mad half-brother) . The film even ends with a call to arms -"Don't assume bread, seize dynamite!"
This title ranks among the best spaghetti westerns, and it is in my personal top 10 spaghettis. Gian-Maria Volonte is gargantuan as usual and the movie fits to his political views. Too awful he abandoned the western genre after 'Face To Face' in 1967. I wish he'd made for westerns as it is a big pleasure to peek him either he plays the hero or the villain. He played in 4 westerns all of which are considered to be in top 10 or at least top 20. Also check for 'Sacco&Vanzetti' (not a western though) to explore how talented he is.

During the first twenty minutes or so of "Besieged," directed by Bernardo Bertolucci, there is virtually no dialogue, at least nothing even remotely conversational; and yet the first half hour of the film is almost hypnotically riveting, and by that point you already know more about the two main characters than if they'd had pages worth of words to say. And it's all done with the subtle, controlled emoting of the actors, guided by a director with a involved contemplate for detail, who knows exactly what he wants, how to pick up it and how to exhibit it.

This emotionally exciting film stars Thandie Newton as Shandurai, a young woman forced to leave South Africa for Rome after her husband, a school teacher, is arrested by the Military Police, then summarily held in prison-- and without a trial-- indefinitely (His crime is never precisely indicated, though it is implied during a classroom scene at the very beginning of the film) . In Rome, Shandurai attends medical school, while supporting herself by working as a housekeeper for a man named Mr. Kinsky (David Thewlis), a reclusive pianist, apparently fairly well-to-do, who gives piano lessons to children in his home.

Early on in the film it is evident that Mr. Kinsky looks upon Shandurai as something more than merely a housekeeper; he is obviously quite taken with her. The apt implications of the location are readily apparent, of course, as is the dwelling in which it will predictably plot Shandurai at some point in the come future. There is microscopic doubt as to the direction the fable is taking; the ask that remains, however, is how Shandurai will deal with her impending spot.

The anecdote becomes even more bright as matters are pressed and circumstances perform which form Shandurai's conundrum even more of a lawful miasma. Bertolucci draws his audience in by creating a residence so emotionally complex that at times it fairly resonates on the conceal. And rather than allowing it to become simply a test of esteem and loyalty, he takes it grand deeper-- so that the valid impact of the film stems from the respective stances taken by Shandurai and Mr. Kinsky, as they strive to decide their personal feelings while attempting to satisfactorily breach this seemingly insurmountable set. Bertolucci draws a dazzling line on which he balances the emotions, actions and reactions of his characters, which pays off handsomely in the slay.

The overall success of the film, however, is predicated upon on thing-- that being the performances of Newton and Thewlis; and both content, unequivocally. Newton's role is especially intelligent, as she has to divulge so remarkable through her emotions alone. Her gestures, expressions and mannerisms are her words; and the slightest alteration of any of these-- the slightest arch of an eyebrow, a shifting of the eyes at a particular moment or a barely discernible movement of her lips-- speaks volumes. And for this to be effective, it had to advance from a plot deep within; mere surface theatrics or any hint of pretentiousness at any time would have dispelled the believability of the character at once-- and Newton not only prevails, but does so overwhelmingly. It's an extremely well realized portrayal of a woman in conflict, facing one of the greatest trials of her life.

Thewlis, as well, gives a resoundingly sympathetic performance as Mr. Kinsky, that would have to be ranked among the best work he's ever done. As with Newton's role, he must train so considerable physically, and he does-- turning in a very sensitive, well defined performance through which he employs unbiased the accurate amount of reserve and restraint as befits the character he is creating. It's an affecting, unbiased portrayal that makes Mr. Kinsky very genuine and believable.

The supporting cast includes Claudio Santamaria, John C. Ojwang, Massimo De Rossi, Cyril Nri, Paul Osul and Veronica Lazar. Artistically rendered and subtle in nuance, "Besieged" explores the parameters of fancy and measures the limits of the boundaries expressed by the heart. An insightful treatise on human nature, it removes one emotional layer after another, fair up to the very end-- which is a moment of truth nothing less than sublime. And one that will sustain this film in your memory long after the mask has gone dusky.

Music is the center of Thewlis' world and it is the center of the movie. You'll be pleased your sound system during this film because it is made up of music rather than dialogue or dazzling visuals. Although Thandie Newton is certainly a shapely visual.This movie stands out because it is so absolutely like no other, not even Bertolucci's previous efforts prepare you for it. Thewlis(you might remember from Naked) plays the decadent westerner(all Bertolucci lead roles are that) we are asked to pay attention to. Thewlis does not expect you pay attention like Brando does rather he is so serene and mysterious you can't wait on but pay attention. Only when he plays piano do you catch out how considerable is going on within him. And what music(the piano is the third major presence in this movie) . Thewliss and Newton approach from different sides of the world and neither is perhaps very contented with the station from whence they approach, both exiles, and each is very animated about the other. Many times the camera is on one at a time while each wonders about the other in the next room. It doesn't sound like great but it is drama of a very exclusive sort. Two humans,two cultures perhaps, slowly coming into contact. Very odd and very mighty movie. You may as well order the soundtrack too.

The Resident Execrable series has become one of the top selling titles for video game company CAPCOM. The two were celebrated characters that fans enjoyed and in 2005, "Resident Contaminated 4 featuring Leon Kennedy became a mountainous hit earning "Game of the Year" by various publications.

With the popularity of the character of Leon Kennedy, how fitting was it when CAPCOM announced the reuniting of both Leon and Claire. As a fan of the video game series, I was definitely enraged and couldn't wait to gawk the film. "resident evil: DEGENERATION" takes station seven years after "Resident Tainted 2.

VIDEO & AUDIO:

Picture quality is ravishing apt. The film is entirely in CG and was created in Maya. The CG was well done but not as fluid as "Final Fantasy: Advent Children" but unexcited looked very impressive. The rendered character models were impartial ample to glimpse at (especially at the beginning when you stare the airport or even the WilPharm HQ. Both explore very realistic!) and Leon, Claire and Angela Miller model renders were unbiased very well done. If anything, there is runt jerkiness when it comes to a end up of a character and trying to obtain it do natural and realistic movements during a conversation. But during the action scenes, the movements were very nice and overall, the CG was very well done.

If anything, fans of the video games will more than likely like these CG rendered scenes.

As for audio, the audio is featured in Dolby Digital 5.1 and during the action scenes (which there are many), sound does approach alive and sounds very pleasant on my system. Dialogue is quite distinct. As for the music, the ending theme "Guilty" is by Japanese music artist ANNA TSUCHIYA.

SPECIAL FEATURES:

The DVD features quite a few special features which include:

* The Generation of DEGENERATION featurette - This featurette interviews Makoto Kamiya and other CAPCOM staff and their goal with the film, why they passe the genuine English allege actors in terms of the motion retract (including having them learn how to gain a gun) and more behind-the-scenes footage on the creation of the film. Also, fan reaction at San Diego Funny Con.
* Character Profiles - Profiles feature a text blurb on each character and you can access a video or photography profile (from parts of the film) .
* Stammer Bloopers - This is more or less bloopers but not clear if it was intentionally created or if it was genuine bloopers. One featured Leon Kennedy telling the others about his "fee". Quite comic to sight.
* Faux Leon Interview - I'm not quite clear what this feature was about. A man is interviewing one of the motion catch actors and the actor is talking about working with Kamiya-san and others on the film.
* Resident Evil: Degeneration Trailers - Trailers for the film
* Resident Evil: Degeneration Tokyo Game Expose Trailer - Tokyo Game Display trailer

Let me first say that I am a colossal fan of the "Resident Bad" series and I believe nearly all the US releases. "Resident Ghastly 2 really was innovative when it first was released for the Sony Playstation and was my well-liked R.E. game until "Resident Contaminated 4 was released and that video game was unbiased unbelievable.

So, that being said, watching this film had me smiling because I absolutely savor both the characters of Leon Kennedy and Claire Redfield. How this film furthers the storyline of the two characters but also builds on definite situations that may have major ramifications for future video game releases is quite attractive.

So, with that being said, I enjoyed the film because the creators really wanted to pay homage to "Resident Wicked 2 and "Resident Corrupt 4 video game series and its fans. But I realize that many people who are not familiar with the video game series are wondering how the context of this film is to the live-action film series featuring Mila Jovovich.

There is a relation by name and of course, the virus that turns people to zombies but really, this film was created for the fans of the video game series in mind.

Also, with this being a video game-related film, many who crave a deep storyline with character development of who is Claire and who is Leon may feel disappointed. The reason why video gamers who played the video games is that through those video game moments of playing these characters for hours, there was a vested interest.

I would remove that many viewers not familiar with the video game series won't remove up the importance of Claire or Leon to the loyal "Resident Tainted" storyline. In fact, some may wonder why they should care about these characters especially at the waste with the politics surrounding the viruses.

So, with that being said, "resident evil: DEGENERATION" is an awesome film for those who followed the video game series. The film features plenty of non-stop action, bloody violence courtesy to the zombies and you even catch a scene with blood that splatters on to the camera. But the enjoyment comes from those who had the experience of playing "Resident Irascible 2 and "Resident Sinful 4 and to glance Claire and Leon again.

The CG looks titanic and there are some moments that I was unbiased really in apprehension but at the same time, there are some movements that were jerky and robotic at times. But overall, the model renders were superb and Leon and Claire witness very suited. So, the bottom line is that this film is unprejudiced total fan service for "Resident Base" video game fans. So great that I highly recommend this DVD.

For those who are not familiar with the video game series, you may delight in it but if you are expecting a continuation of the live action films, then this DVD may not be for you. In fact, some may be disappointed because there is no strong site for them to truly luxuriate in these characters especially without playing the video games. So, I can understand if they don't derive into it.

Again, if you are fans of the "Resident Outrageous" video games, you can't support but have a smile on your face because there is now a "Resident Imperfect" film that was created with the RE video game fan in mind. And for that, I recommend this DVD for you!
I watched Degeneration in NY Anxiety Film Festival. At first I didn't inquire of a lot from this movie, cause the live action trilogy is very disappointing and I unprejudiced didn't dare to put a question to it would be worthy, but it is. If you're an RE fan, it's a must-see movie. You won't be disappointed. Luckily the movie doesn't focus on fighting zombies too powerful. It is a drama/thriller. The movie successfully combines T & G-virus storyline fans are familiar with. Although not noteworthy character development, you can devour the anecdote. CG share in my belief is not as safe as Final Fantasy. Characters' facial expression is a puny stiff, and their "stares" are slow. Women behold like they had plastic surgery. But these are not serious problems, honest the technical parts they need to improve. Degeneration narrative is great better than FF. After watching its premiere, I can't wait to win the DVD.

In the early 1980s, a group of guys wanted to get a unique kind of fright film. Due to a very little budget and time constraints, they knew they couldn't form one titillating complex special effects and hideous-looking monsters - gore was not really an option. John McNaughton, first time Director, decided on a film about the everyday life a serial killer, situation in fresh day America. Noteworthy of the shoot would be on station, so no flashy soundstages or gigantic sets to eat up the budget. They cast an unknown in the lead and kept the cast and crew minimal. Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer was born.

The finish of watching this film will flood you with many emotions as you go through it - infuriate, dismay, empathy, sympathy, disgust to name but a few. It's very simple status - a serial killer moves in with his ex-con cellmate and sister, then goes round killing people, is disturbingly simple. Absolutely everything about this recount works - the shoddy locations, the precision character acting (easily Michael Rooker's best film and his most intense performance) and matter-of-fact manner in which the murders happen, execute this one of the most disturbing films ever made.

I judge it is a masterpiece and creates feelings in the audience that go well beyond any that the great Hollywood blockbusters could hope to score approach to. It is I would say, the most disturbing film I have ever seen (and I've watched many, many fear films) because it works on an entirely different level - these are people you pass in the street, that live arrive to you. McNaughton offers no explanation as to why the things we glance on the shroud happen, they fair do - which ultimately makes this more hideous. Thus, we are left with an almost flawless character eye of a serial killer in his prime, no hope for redemption, Henry kills because he enjoys it, no other reason and we, as the audience are implicated into that, by our fascination with inferior deeds and violence (otherwise why in the first site, would you even want to gaze a film like this? ) .

Perhaps the most provocative element of the entire film is moral at the beginning before it starts - a warning is displayed, giving the audience a taster of impartial what they're going to experience. McNaughton has oft claimed that anyone who sits through the whole film needs it, that those who leave early or don't witness it, don't need it. We are left with a film that makes you feel heart-broken about enjoying onscreen violence, forcing you to examine unbiased why you'd want to perceive people being killed and surely this can only be a righteous thing?

The DVD is fully uncut and includes insights by McNaughton which are titillating and add to the general feeling of the film - it's certainly worth getting this version if any, but be warned - this is a one-off - no ghosts, ghouls or buckets of gore, nothing so easy I'm scared.

The reputation of John McNaughton's "Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer" is vast in the realm of independent cinema. Made on a budget of over one hundred thousand dollars aid in the 1980s, the movie went on to polarize viewers and critics alike. Some praised McNaughton's unflinching vision, his nihilistic portrayal of two lower class killers with nothing to live for and nothing to lose. The other camp rejected the film outright, deriding it as the worst sort of exploitative trash cinema. I tend to favor the worn opinion; I reflect McNaughton's film is a bright scrutinize at a petite segment of society we all know exists even if it is rarely discussed. Besides, bashing the film as exploitative beggars the demand of who it is exploiting. Serial killers? Guys like Ted Bundy, Jeffrey Dahmer, and Henry Lee Lucas (the killer McNaughton loosely based the film on) could stand to have a bit more mud slung on their already malevolent reputations. I cannot net one scene in the movie that idolizes what these two guys do in their spare time. And, unlike slasher films and sundry other awe films, "Henry" demonstrates that violent acts have serious consequences.

"Henry" takes area in the dirty, gray streets and alleyways of Chicago. Henry (Michael Rooker) and his prison pal Otis (Tom Towles) employ their days working obscene paying jobs, drinking beer, and watching television. Otis toils at a gas spot in between trips to his parole officer. Henry works as an insect exterminator (!) . Things open looking up when Becky (Tracy Arnold), Otis's sister, moves in with the pair to elope the doldrums of little town life. Although she has some problems abet home with a troublesome boyfriend, Becky takes a shine to Henry almost immediately. She pesters her brother for information about the man and is not tremulous in the least when Otis tells her that Henry went to prison for murdering his mother. In fact, she finds this information rather attractive. Henry comes to like Becky too, so great so that he steps in when Otis treats her in a disturbing manner. The presence of Becky complicates the unfamiliar relationship between the two men, a relationship that is soon to grasp a horrific turn as Otis discovers what Henry does in his spare time.

Henry is a serial killer, a unpleasant murderer who preys on total strangers. He thinks nothing of following a potential victim home from the mall, or picking up strangers in bars and then dispatching them in plain ways. Henry likes the feeling he gets from his crimes, and he soon involves Otis in his terrifying activities. Why his friend decides to serve is a mystery. Perhaps he feels Becky driving a wedge between him and Henry. Otis exhibits many of the behaviors associated with a follower, and Henry is definitely a take-charge sort of guy, so maybe that is the overriding reason. Whatever the case, Otis soon becomes as involved about cancel as Henry. When Otis complains about being indignant one evening, his pal helpfully relieves the tension by tricking a passing car into stopping so the two can shoot the driver. A broken television state provides the impetus for a killing at a fence's office. The absolute worst crime intelligent these two, however, is something we look on videotape as Henry and Otis relive their thrills. Predictably, Becky soon discovers what her brother and his friend do when they aren't at home. The conclusion to the film is a shocker.

Any map you crop it (no pun intended), "Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer" is an excruciating experience. The crimes, while not overtly gory, revel in the sheer sadism of the act. If McNaughton was attempting to evoke a sense of outrage on the fragment of the audience, he succeeded wildly. You cannot even stand to discover at these people after awhile, so frightening are their actions. I found myself praying for a police officer, a security guard, a neighborhood leer guy-anybody in authority to present up and place a close to these two goons' activities. But as defective in trusty life often goes unchecked, so do Henry's and Otis's extracurricular activities in Chicago. The film accomplishes what it sets out to do largely because the performances of the two actors playing the considerable characters do such a gracious job. "Henry" was Michael Rooker's first film, and I agree with McNaughton when he says in the interview on the disc that this actor had star written all over him. Rooker plays Henry as a sort of withdrawn, soft-spoken type that probably would appear unthreatening to potential victims. Fair as well-behaved is Tom Towles as the grubby Otis, who portrays his character as an insufferable extrovert who occasionally sinks into pouty silences. Without these two actors, one wonders whether "Henry" would have become the cult classic it is today.

The DVD version of the film is a expedient one. A lengthy interview with John McNaughton tells the viewer everything they ever wanted to know about the movie. The director explains the long road to finishing the project, his experiences when it finally opened in a theater, and the lengthy battle with the MPAA over the rating for the movie, a battle which saw the censors pushing for extensive cuts to avoid the dreaded 'X' rating while McNaughton fought to retain his vision intact. Considering some of the shameful films floating around out there today, the concerns of the censors seem rather aged now. Unexcited, the film has lost miniature of its power to disturb deeply. Fans of offbeat cinema, if they have not done so already, will wish to seize this one up soon.

Well having The Terminitor series on DVD and loving them and having recently upgraded to a blu-ray player I decided to rob the tumble and upgrade my collection to high definition blu-ray format.

Boy, what a mistake that was.

Picture quality is Abominable - well bad for blu-ray anyway. They've taken the same standard definition source as the DVD and upscaled it for blu-ray - but it's detached standard definition. Only the menu is in High Definition, the movie is not. I tested my DVD version upscaled against the blu-ray edition and found them identical - if anything the DVD came out slightly on top.

It also only contains 2 extras - the special effects making of and the retrospective - nothing else. My DVD edition contains over a dozen extras.

My verdict if you're thinking of buying The Terminator in blu-ray and you have an upscaling DVD/BD player - forget it. Stick with the DVD version instead, describe is the same and it has more extras. It's cheaper too.

Maybe one day this astonishing movie will receive the treatment it deserves and be digitally remastered and have it's frames scanned with a high definition camera - but until then sit on your DVD's and wait.
The unusual "Terminator" is arguably the greatest sci-fi/action film ever, and the Special Edition DVD finally does this classic film justice. Many people examine at the sequel as the better of the two, but remember, Cameron was given a gargantuan budget for T2. He was forced to film "The Terminator" for less than $6 million. If you're like me, you could write enough about this movie to have an encyclopedia, but I'll try to give impartial a breif residence description for those who have yet to glance it.

In the future, SkyNET, the supercomputer in control of all military power, decides that humans must be destroyed and begins a massive nuclear war that destroys most of the population. The survivors get a resistance agains the computer and its mechanical army, and eventually defeat it, thanks to their leader John Connor. In a final wretchedness to gather, the computer sends a Terminator attend in time to slay John's mother, Sarah, before he is born. The humans send support a lone soilder, Kyle Reese, to protect Sarah from the seemingly unstoppable cyborg.

When the movie was originally filmed, the soundtrack was recorded in mono, which sounded imperfect on the unusual DVD release of the Terminator. But here you can collect a newly recorded soundtrack, with the novel soundtrack remixed along with unusual gun and explosion sound effects. Most of the novel sounds are very icy (esp. the HK entrance in the first scene), and the unusual gun effects are splendid for the most allotment. Only in a few instances are the unusual sounds a microscopic ragged. Fortunately the DVD also sports the recent mono soundtrack for when you want to ogle the novel verion.

Next to the film itself, the best piece of this DVD is the Special Features, most of which were unavailable before. There are two Terminator documentaries, which have cast and crew interviews and leisurely the scene footage of the recent filming of the Terminator, very cold stuff for die hards. Also featured are deleted scenes from the novel film, which offer a deeper study into the Terminator mythology, and shows different sides of some characters which you wouldn't recognize in the new. Also in the special features are all the fresh storyboards for the film and hundreds more photos of the sets, actors and sketches from the novel production. Strong characters, high adventure, a sparkling backdrop, appropriate flashbacks, historical value...this expose is a gem. What a refreshing departure from the usual network fare of reality shows and crime dramas. And how often does a fresh TV note or movie prove a lead character who doesn't have a shadowy side, but has total integrity and honor. Winchester's protrayal of Crusoe is admirable, as is the character himself. Can't say enough generous about this reveal. And I agree with those who'd like to examine a movie made to tie up the loose ends at the ruin of season 1. Anyway...bravo Crusoe!

I objective stumbled upon this exhibit when it was on TV and was lucky enough to ogle it from the very first episode all the arrangement through (thanks to Tivo -- it wasn't easy to accept it otherwise with all of the scheduling changes it went through) . I am so gay to recognize that it is being released on DVD! It will be fun to stare it again. If you haven't seen this exhibit, or if you missed some of the episodes, I highly recommend it. It's a lot of fun and a broad family point to too. I hope the DVD residence includes some extras not seen on TV. It would be spacious if they made some kind of movie to tie up everything not resolved in the series. Or, continuing the series to another season would be even better!

I want to retort to the many posts about the ethnicity of the Gigantic Khan. For the recount, many of those who are having a hissy fit over him being presented as a caucasiod are doing so out of ignorance. Arab chroniclers described him in big detail: red hair, fairly astronomical (6 footish), green eyes and radiant skin. The same goes for Tamerlane (Timur the Lame) more or less. There are several books that portray this. And his hordes weren't all Asiatics because many were descendants of the Sarmatians and even earlier the Scythians who were the first horse culture in basically the same spot. They were blondes and dressed mighty like the later Germanic tribes as did the Sarmatians and a modern discovery in western China - the Tocharians (blondes & Nordic, Germanic-Celtic weaving/clothing, quite grand) - more commonly referred too as the 'Tarim Basin Mummies'. Both PBS and Discovery have DVDs and VHS tapes on this discovery as does the Journal of Indo-European Studies covers it.

The DVD was all fair. I've seen better.

So, okay -- having Mongols depicted by actors who could have been anything from Hispanic to Caucasian and certainly not "authentic" Asians is relatively nasty, considering there cannot be a dearth of Asian/Asian-American actors who could have portrayed Genghis (or JENgis, as several of the historical experts were calling him in the program) far more realistically.

Still, the History Channel did a commendable job of exploring the histories of the Vikings, Huns, Mongols, and Goths in this program. While I cannot verify whether all the information provided is completely proper, I doubt there are as many hugely glaring errors as other critics would manufacture one bear.

My only disappointment is that there were smooth unanswered questions about several things after having watched this series. The name HUN -- is it related to the HAN dynasty of China that drove them westward...? And what's the disagreement between an Ostrogoth and a Visigoth -- geography alone, or more?
How did Kublai Kahn fit into the blood-drenched history of the Mongols?

Finally, I would have liked seeing even a petite coverage of other barbarous European tribes such as the Vandals, Gauls, Picts, Angles, Saxons, and Burgundians.

At the extinguish of the day "Barbarians" presents a decent documentary on a subject heretofore not covered and I found it largely exquisite and educational.

The first season of SEX AND THE CITY was astounding, but the demonstrate really began to hit the lawful notes during the second season they were on the air. The characters become grand deeper -- we salvage to view Carrie caught in the snare of Mr. Large trying desperately to earn the impossible work, Samantha abandons her relationship with James and begins to recommit herself to never being committed, Charlotte tries anything and everything to come by a man (even dates one she suspects might be ecstatic), and the MOST impressive thing ... Miranda develops a soft, warm relationship with Steve the bartender. But impartial when you mediate our four current single gals might have it all figured out...the season finale throws everyone of them a curve ball! This is some of the best wrtiting ever for a sit-com, and some of the most astounding characters on television. Gone is Candace Bushnell's blue print of the book (except for the 20-something episode), so season two develops more of a tale with each episode building on the next. And some of the funniest scenes ever ... like Samantha's three scheme with a overjoyed couple, Charlotte's class on tantric sex, and Carrie having to wreck up with a guy's mother (played by Valerie Harper) . Or when Carrie gets slammed by Current York magazine for being SINGLE AND Fantastic? You will want this collection! They earn better and better even watching them a couple of times. And I dare you to contemplate objective one at a time!

The women are wait on in the second season of Sex and the City! This prove fair keeps on getting better and better, as Carrie, Miranda, Charlotte and Samantha's characters' are given more depth. And there are more episodes on this season than there were on the first for us to regain our SATC fix.

This one grabbed my attention when I read about it in the Novel York Times last month. The article made it sound like it might rival Hitchcock's Strangers on a Remark or Agatha Christie's Destroy on the Orient Exclaim. Well it doesn't. Not even end. Granted it does feature exotic Transsiberian locales from Beijing to Moscow, a philosophize bound elephantine of mystery and suspense, and the work of a place of sterling actors. Unfortunately, everything that is pleasing about this film is derailed by a script that takes one too many unlikely set turns. So, instead of getting a suspense filled Strangers on a Mutter or an elegantly paced Cancel on the Orient Suppose, we salvage unbiased another Hostel or Turistas.

In the beginning there is the thrill that one is about to embark on an exotic hurry into an location for the most share uncharted by Hollywood (Siberia), and the film does grunt a few glimpses of China and Russia that entice the study. This isn't Oscar stuff by any stretch but naivete is Woody's forte and since this character truly is caring and compassionate and sees only the best in other people he's actually quite likable. Since everyone else in this film is slightly jaded and gaurded and hiding a sketchy past, Roy's optimism and openness and childlike enthusiasm for trains is actually quite refreshing. His openness is at times an asset (he is a people magnet), at other times a liability (his naivete and over-the-top Americanness originate him an easy target at home and abroad) .

Accompanying Roy on this volunteer lag to China is his wife Jessie (played by the immensely talented and infinitely watchable Emily Mortimer whose previous film appearances include: Match Point, Lars and the Accurate Girl & Splendid and Fabulous) . Jessie is an curious match for Roy. She has experienced more of the world than he has and her adventurous, and perhaps unlit, past is something that she keeps to herself. That is until Roy and Jessie board the Transsiberian Bid and meet fellow travelers Carlos (Eduardo Noriega, best known for his work in the Spanish film Start Your Eyes) and Abby (Kate Mara) . Carlos and Abby are seasoned travelers who ogle like they have seen a lot of the world, and not fair the stuff that's in the Lonely Planet disappear guide. Though well traveled, they are younger than Roy and Jessie and unexcited tubby of wanderlust for the world and each other. Being around them reawakens Jessie's occupy tranquil simmering wanderlust. Reckless and impulsive Carlos awakens her sense of pain and her sensuality (which have remained for the most allotment dormant during her time with Roy) ; and unrooted and hazardous Abby reminds her of her bear younger and riskier, and as yet unmapped, self. Abby represents that side of herself that Jessie misses but also fears so she feels threatened by but also protective of Abby who is traveling down a lot of the same paths and traveling down them for many of the same reasons that Jessie formerly did. Abby's attraction to Carlos reminds Jessie of her hold attractions to such men when she was that age and therefore she has conflicting feelings for Carlos: her younger self wants him, her older self wants him out of the portray. The fact that Jessie has a past and an plan of many different types of existence makes her an safe observer of human nature and as a result she takes unbelievable pictures. But this avocation, like her relationship with Roy, is also a well-behaved one. It allows her to indulge her interest in the disordered variety of life that she is attracted to but also to beget a responsible and gracious distance from that world. The film could have worked well had it confined itself to developing the personal histories and tracing the evolving relationship dynamics and life trajectories of these four characters as they go together in end quarters on an exotic deliver passing through one snowy Siberian locale after another. The two are caught in a whirlwind of drug-smuggling, torture and curved cops. I haven't been this impressed with a movie for a long time and can't wait to take this sucker on DVD disc!

** The pleasing "Cranford" starring a bevy of British acting greats led by Judi Dench, Michael Gambon, Eileen Atkins, Francesca Annis and Imelda Staunton. What sets these apart from other costume dramas is the consistency of the acting, the high production values, the compelling stories, and memorable characters. I dare you not to feel John Thornton's injure as he says "Study relieve at me" as he watches Margaret climb up the carriage on her scheme wait on to London, or Harry Gregson's hurt as he says goodbye to a beloved mentor, or the thrill as Roger Hamley sees Molly's transformation at the Cumnor's ball. These are fantastic stories that you will want to stare over and over, which do this dvd collection an absolute gem.
I had heard a cramped about Elizabeth Gaskell before. I knew that she had written the biography of Charlotte Bronte but that is all I knew about her. I had never read any of Mrs. Gaskell's books myself. Recently, I saw Cranford on PBS and decided to consume the DVD of it. When I saw that Amazon offered a collection of three of Mrs. Gaskell's stories, I decided to prefer the whole collection. I must say, I Admire all three of these stories and I have arrive to bask in Mrs. Gaskell as a writer, even more. If you are a Jane Austen fan, you will devour Cranford, Wives & Daughters and North & South by Elizabeth Gaskell, too.

I have seen a lot of negative reviews here for this movie. I deem this movie is not that abominable at all. If you have liked "Hurry", you will probably like "S.W.A.T" too. The actions are gigantic, and so is the photography. The director has ragged his imagination and with the camera he managed to fetch some capable shots for the movie. However, I was shrimp disappointed by the acting of Samuel L. Jackson, and Michelle Rodriguez (actually not expected anything from her, she has an emotionless face), but Colin Farrell, and Olivier Martinez looked sizable throughout the movie.

Sometimes, the movie score monotonous, but soon picks up with action and keeps the audience on their seat. I agree with one of the reviewer that the movie is more mechanical thriller, but tranquil it's worth a view. The DVD I got had all the features, except the eight deleted scenes mentioned here. The sound effects are tall and you will relish this movie if you have a 5.1 home theater system.

I spent my hard earned cash for a matinee fully expecting to stare a expansive, loud, expressionless, mindless and escapist action packed film filled with gun-fights, fist fights, stuff blowing up, mean Euro-trash villains (in this case a right slimy Gaul), a team made of devoted experts, decent enough acting and a few comical lines as well as a passable performance by the young Mel Gibson-like Colin Farrell and I have to say, my money was well spent.

SWAT has the potential to be the TOP GUN for special police forces. SWAT contains TOP GUN'S romanticized vision of ripped warrior bodies performing colossal feats of physical skill. Like TOP GUN'S Navy Pilots and their elegant sonic jets, this trim Police force expertly manipulates specific technology to defeat the forces of snide. A warrior's complete and total articulate over the tools of the trade- guns, cars, clubs and each other makes such films work as effective recruitment tools. Who wouldn't want to be portion of such an expert team?

SWAT embraces all the required clichés befitting a friendly action/cop picture: the [...]by-the-numbers captain, the hardened archaic (played with the usual strength and charisma by the always qualified Samuel L. Jackson), the impish rebel, the tough female partner, the shapeshifting turncoat and the family man as sacrificial lamb.

If someone wants a decent action-adventure, no thinking required, challenging junk food movie that provides temporary satisfaction, SWAT serves the bill.

This is my approved movie version of the record of Helen of Troy. It's more melodramatic and theatrical than the new cable TV miniseries, but it is faster paced and has a grandeur and fascination with Greek mythology lacking in that version. At least Cassandra is Kassandra in this film - she's endowed with the gift of prophecy, yet no one believes her until it's too slack. Then again, many other mythological details are sacrificed for simplicity's sake.

In the role of Helen, Rossana Podesta is radiantly gorgeous. She indeed has the face that could open a thousand ships. And the Paris of Jacques Sernas is nearly as handsome as his beloved. Their passion is believable, if a tad overblown. The rest of cast is great too, especially the Priam of Sir Cedric Hardwick, Achilles of Stanley Baker and Odysseus of Torin Thatcher. Although the Trojan War occured during Mycenaean times, most of the space designs and costumes appear to exhaust Classical Greece as the model, and to very advantageous do, for it gives the movie a nobility lacking in the more unusual version. It's all pure Hollywood and many liberties have been taken. The spectacular scenery, tall matte work and action sequences nevertheless earn for a very inspiring movie. So where's the DVD?

I am a unique fan. I never heard of Paul Mooney until he started showing up on Chappeles' Prove, and Howard Stern. I immediately became a fan. I don't know why they would get it like that. I would rather unbiased have the routine uncut. I could care less what Sandra Bernhard has to say about him.

The forlorn Peter (Adrien Brody) and his luggage barely accomplish it to an Indian voice in time to join his brothers, woman-chasing writer Jack (Jason Schwartzman) and bandaged control freak Francis (Owen Wilson) . The radiant, visual richness gives it a sense of whimsy.

"The Darjeeling Little" is a visually fantastic, contemplative shrimp comedy, all about three men who have to deal with the past before they can recede on. Save it on the shelf next to "Royal Tenenbaums."

Stanley Kramer's IT'S A Indignant, Aroused, Enraged, Exasperated WORLD (1963, UA) is my approved comedy of the sound era and the most fondly remembered movie of my 1960's childhood in the San Francisco Bay Space. MAD WORLD does something moral that every other movie of its type gets wrong--it starts a hotfoot residence in reel one, then develops character outward as we go along. It does not use 45 minutes setting up the memoir, as similar movies do. In the opening scene, a dying millionaire (Jimmy Durante) tells a group of people in the Southern California desert that a big sum of money is buried "under a mammoth W" in a park south of San Diego. Mickey Rooney and Buddy Hackett are gag writers headed for Las Vegas. Milton Berle is headed for a vacation with wife Dorothy Provine and Ethel Herman as the mother-in-law to beat all mothers-in-law. Sid Caesar and Edie Adams are a dentist and his wife. And Jonathan Winters is driving a van of furniture. Monitoring all of them, as they rush after the money, is Spencer Tracy as the coastal city (a compilation of Long Beach and Santa Monica) police captain with a wall way.

So we have a slapstick traipse movie to waste all slapstick scoot movies. (WARNING: Station SPOILERS AHEAD!!) Heading a golden age of television cast are Caesar and Adams, who pick up to hover in a makeshift plane, then gain locked in a hardware store basement. In a career performance, Winters hilariously gets to completely shatter a desert gas space. Berle has a running battle with the mother-in-law from Hell, Merman, who in turn has been given some gloriously acidic dialogue by sterling sreenwriters William and Tania Rose. The Roses have never been given enough credit here. All of the sublime dialogue is on the printed page. Along the arrangement, Winters meets up with Phil Silvers, who in turn mixes up with miner Mike Mazurki. Silvers is staggeringly comic with a car at the bottom of a canyon, then later drowning in a river. Rooney and Hackett are in another plane that flies through a Coke billboard after pilot Jim Backus knocks himself unconscious. There is also Dick Shawn as Merman's lifeguard son at Silver Strand Beach. And a phone running battle in his inner police office with Tracy and his wife and daughter that escalates over a simple vacation. And this is only allotment one, before the film's intermission! Fragment two has some of the funniest dialogue and greatest car chases in all of movie history for me. And the colossal climax has never been topped for me--not even by still era clowns.

MAD WORLD got mixed reviews when it opened city by city in gradual 1963, moral before President Kennedy's tragic death in Dallas. Almost everyone recalls a lot of hard work in desert heat, but also a heck of a lot of slapstick fun. One other thing I like about the movie is that the Southern California desert landscapes are deserted for miles--no other cars and no homes, fair an occasional truck and gas space.

For 22 years, Paul and I and others have been on a futile quest to restore IT'S A Enraged, Excited, Indignant, Aroused WORLD support to its unique 192 dinky Cinerama world premiere length. The closest we have advance is the 182 tiny reconstruction on home video and cable TV, and it includes preview material. So we are unexcited missing at least ten minutes of crucial visual material and as worthy as fifteen minutes. Included in the calm lost material (I have the complete script--I reflect) are Shawn stealing his married girlfriend's (!) convertible, more of Buster Keaton's cameo as a crook, getting Jim Backus INTO a shower he subsequently is removed from, the identity of a unusual man in the police location (he is a police reporter told to sit on the sage for now), Tracy learning who Silvers is (an unemployed piano player and gambler), and the beginning of almost all the police office scenes. Unique prints, including the 182, join them in progress.

There are easy-to-find Internet articles on Stanley Kramer's immortal masterpiece that claim the colossal Robert Harris and James Katz, who restored VERTIGO and MY Pleasing LADY among others, want to reconstruct Wrathful WORLD. My Internet sources claim Harris has in his possession "188 minutes of bona fide world premiere footage." Only four minutes missing off the novel 192 limited print--close enough for me! The Internet claims further that Harris honest is waiting for a $2 million lift order--lunch money in today's Hollywood--to do the work that needs to be done to restore this fantastic movie attend to the length it ran when it opened in Los Angeles on November 7, 1963; the version that early in 1964 got six Oscar nominations.

I wasn't that impressed the first time I saw this movie. But on repeated viewings with friends, I've approach to bask in it more. The actors are phenomenal and the material has a timelessly silly quality to it. I'm young enough that I don't scrutinize all the stars, but that doesn't diminish my enjoyment at all.

I was angry when I found out that the movie was coming to DVD, but I've got to say the final product disappointed me. I have only seen the "restored" VHS version that's been out for years. This DVD goes benefit to the fresh theatrical release and cuts out some of my celebrated scenes. They are included in the deleted scenes part, but it's a very poorly notion out share that makes it hard to procure what you want to eye. The DVD does include noble describe and sound, and I have always enjoyed the documentary included from the videos.

This is a classic movie that everyone should study. However, if you're a fan of the new videos, be forewarned that this is not the entire movie you are former to seeing. Hopefully, this movie will be reissued on DVD with this footage added help.

Besides the fascinating films of Miyazaki Hayao, I have rarely watched Japanese animation during the past six years or so. However, during that time period I did happen to look a film called Perfect Blue. Unlike grand anime with their bug-eyed, florescent haired characters, Perfect Blue was moving in a more realistic style and like the interesting films of Oshii Mamoru it delved into questions of the mind, image, and reality. Since the release of Perfect Blue, Kon Satoshi also directed Millennium Actress, Tokyo Godfathers, and the television series Paranoia Agent none of which I have seen myself, but of which I have heard apt things from my anime watching friends. I was attracted to the film Paprika when I saw some of the colorfully vibrant film stills and heard a couple of Hirasawa Susumu's pulsating electric tracks from its soundtrack. This past weekend I watched the film twice and I am detached trying to unravel some of the threads of concept that it has left in my brain.

Paprika opens in...a circus. Detective Konakawa, apparently on an undercover mission suddenly finds himself within a cage after the emcee, supposedly a friend, points. He then falls through the floor into gaze film, also a Tarzan film, and also a gangster film. We then spy him initiate up a door to watch a body falling after it has been shot and the culprit escaping. Konakawa then wakes up next to a lithe, red-headed girl. Using a method called a DC mini which allows an individual to enter another's dreams to salvage what is ailing the "patient." The girl, called Paprika, is quite experienced at her job and is quite knowledgeable about dreams and the inner psyches of individuals. However, Paprika herself is nothing more than the manifestation of the psyche of Dr. Chiba Atsuko, a very serious woman who is quite dedicated to her profession even if it means doing things a bit under the table. Problems start when Dr. Tokita, a morbidly obese childlike genius, informs Chiba that three of the DC minis have been stolen. To manufacture matters worse, Dr. Tokita never programmed security codes into the devices to prevent objective anyone from being able to consume them. The first evident victim of the DC mini is the fraction chief Shima who suddenly dives out a window when his psyche is invaded by another's dreams. Chiba goes to sleep in order to allow Paprika to jump into Shima's dream. There she discovers a very creepy circus led by a mailbox and a refrigerator unbiased like Shima said before he jumped out the window. She soon discovers that the culprit is Dr. Tokita's assistant Himuro who is in the guise of a Japanese doll. However, do things truly extinguish with Himuro or is there something mighty deeper at stake?

Like the comics of Shirow Masamune, Paprika delves into the query of science and technology and its relationship to mankind. The Chairman states that dreams should not be invaded by science because they are precious to humans. With the intervention of science this purity is lost and humans lose a valuable aspect of themselves. The self and the Internet is also an jabber within this film. People produce lives and personas completely different from their lawful selves online. Be it being a jerk on You Tube or creating a fantasy life, individuals allow for their psyches to span in cyberspace. These are unbiased a couple of questions that the film raises. Sexuality in the being of Dr. Chiba, a primitive woman, and Paprika, a teenaged girl, also plays a valuable role, but I feel as if I need to glimpse the film a couple more times before I delve into that topic.

With its pulsating soundtrack and wide ranging milieu of colors, Paprika is quite an experience both aurally and visually. Definitely an keen film to be watched for those eager in the genre expanding potential of animation, Paprika will definitely spark one's thinking cap.
It's no secret amongst fans of lustrous, adult sci-fi that some of the best genre films these days aren't originating from Hollywood, but rather from the masters of Japanese anime. Films like "Akira " and "Ghost in the Shell" reveal a quality of writing and visual imagination that few "live action" productions (post "Blade Runner") can touch.

One of the most adventurous anime directors is Satoshi Kon. In previous work like his incredibly dense and ambitious TV miniseries "Paranoia Agent", and in several feature films, Kon has displayed a flair for coupling complex characterization with a neo-realistic visual style that tends to execute me forget that I'm watching an "anime". Most of Kon's work up until this point has drawn on genres that one does not typically associate with anime: adult drama ("Tokyo Godfathers"), film noir ("Perfect Blue"), psychological thriller ("Paranoia Agent") and character peek ("Millennium Actress") .

Kon's latest film, "Paprika" is actually the first of his animes that I would categorize as "sci-fi"... and it's a doozy.

A team of scientists develops an interface draw called the "DC mini" that facilitates the transference of dreams from one person to another. This "dream machine" is designed primarily for utilize by psychotherapists; it allows them to literally experience a patient's dreams and select a closer leer "under the hood", if you will. In the detestable hands, however, this could potentially become a very hazardous tool.

As you have likely already guessed, "someone" has hacked into a "DC mini" and started to wreak havoc with people's minds. One by one, members of the research team are driven to suicidal behavior after the dreams of patients are fed into their subconscious without their knowledge (great akin to someone slipping acid into the punch) . Things procure more complicated when these waking dreams start taking sentient develop and commence spreading like a virus, forming a pervasive matrix that threatens to supplant "reality" (whew!) . A homicide detective joins forces with one of the researchers, whose alter-ego, Paprika, is literally a "dream girl", a sort of super-heroine of the subconscious.

"Mind blowing" doesn't even open to recount this Disney-on-acid/murder mystery/psychological sci fi-horror account. It is Kon's most visually ambitious work to date, with glowing exhaust of color and imagery (ticket my words-this one has "future cult midnight movie" written all over it) .

Kon raises some attractive philosophical points (aside from the hoary "what is reality? " debate) . At one point, Paprika ponders: "Don't you believe dreams and the internet are similar? They are both areas where the repressed conscious vents." I mediate Kon is positing that the dream place is the last "sacred state" left for humans; if technology encroaches we will lose our last accurate refuge. A must-see for anime and sci-fi fans.

I received all the tv episodes and all the movies. Each was apt dvd quality and had the option for either english or japanese audio. The position can be English the whole scheme through, or Japanese with english subtitles if you preffer. This is the complete definitive state for Inuyasha Fans, you will not be dissapointed. There was a lack of any precise bonus features, but with this mighty entertainment I wasnt too upset about it. In fact my only peeve was that the discs are not clearly labeled and can be confusing if not kept in the unusual case (I expend an automated dvd index) .

This is the must have place for any Inuyasha fan and one of the few with english voiceovers the whole plan through. There is simply no better method to like Inuyasha.

I bought this and it came in original with shrink wrap. I got the whole seriers (167 ep) and the four movies. This is a fabulous anime series and would say everyone should gaze it!

Looking at "Caillou's Holiday Movie," it's sure that the staff of the display was going for someting a petite different. Stories in the expose itself are only an average of five minutes long, but this is a burly ninety-minute presentation.

The writers and animators seem to have been successful and the result is a colossal epic with shapely musical interludes that kids will appreciate watching. There's a lot to be learned about holiday traditions from around the world, remarkable of it coming from a twelve days of Christmas calendar that Caillou receives as reveal from Daddy. Although there are no puppet segments, most of the best characters are indicate in the record, including some approved guest characters that are nice references to past stories. Fans of Rosie will also be pleased the movie and the special plan in which she surprises everyone in Caillou's family.

If buying the DVD, brand that while the fable is beneficial, the special features really aren't powerful to cheer about. The Caillou interview bonus doesn't actually recount to the movie, but is actually more of a cute filler segment in which Sarah attempts an interview with Caillou for her school, but can't find straight answers out of Caillou and then experiences technical difficulties. The "singalongs" are simply slice from the movie, they don't even have lyrics at the bottom of the mask or close-captioning to follow along. Finally, the promotion of "six Caillou challenges" is somewhat miselading. There are a two games including, each with three levels, for a total of six "challenges."

This DVD came with bonus extras (games, etc) but I am only reviewing the movie as that is what I have watched; 12 times since we opened it 2 days ago to be dependable. My son loves Caillou. So it was natural that he would appreciate this movie. As a matter of fact, he loves it and has become quite the remote control/TV/DVD hog since having this movie. The other reviewer is factual as the movie is all animation without the puppet segments. But you know what I engage it that design. My son always mistook Rexy and the other puppets as interruptions and they never held his attention for too long. The movie has very shapely songs and truly gets in the spirit of Christmas, giving, adore, family, friendship, etc. I do not want to spoil the movie for others but it is kid superior packed with morals. Now I am a sociologist so I may be unprejudiced a bit biased but I absolutely loooove how the creators added how other cultures in the world celebrate Christmas not impartial the U.S. (Puerto Rico, Germany, Austria, Mexico etc.) They also gave a bit of historical background (How the Christmas tree came about, etc) This is a nice touch for anyone who shares a different background or fair would like their children to know how other exiguous children celebrate Christmas! This is the best Caillou ever. Feliz Navidad!

Willie's Pimp gear and fashions in this film are so detestable, and the draw he deals with sort of being the recent day Job of the hustler world with everyone from the man, the system, rival pimps, the parking authority (who seem to be towing his car in every scene), a social worker, the neighborhood youth and even his you-know-watches comin' down on him makes this film very watchable... even though in many ways its sort of the Belief 9 from Outter Location of the gloomy action genre (by that I mean RIDICULOUS.) - - At one point I actually idea Willie was going to catch Jesus at the destroy and it was going to turn out to be some church financed films... things really got ridiculous... but yes, it does have a clear ending and a message too!!!

There are some other things too that situation it apart from other films of the era, including the injections at times of Dolemite style humor, including Willie's revenge on a rival gangster by stripping him of his threads down to his shoelaces and leaving him in his birthday suit down by the waterfront, and in general the behaviour of the white lodge members at the hotel, who during a knife fight between two rival groups of prostitutes seem to be able to say slight than, "Yes, please!" and "Thank you, Ma'am" in the backround for no reason whatsoever. And I agree, the the film is definitely almost cartoonish at times... very interestingly nick... really has the feel of those early '70s America International films.

Overall, whether you'd award this one best of the genre (in many ways it does rival the Mack) or feel it deserves a Golden Turkey Award, I'd have to say, it is an keen peep by any standard... Somebody vow me where that guy got his threads.. especially the green suit on the shroud!!!

The best Blaxploitation and fictional pimp anecdote I've ever seen. Of course, that's all terribly relative to the genre and time period. A "worthy" Blaxploitation film means it has a solid ENOUGH storyline and that the producers spent a shrimp money on it to get it seem like an loyal film. This one scores high on both counts, and you bag yourself trying to figure out what could possibly happen next. And for a film made in 1973, it's surprisingly recent.

The account starts off with our anti-hero, Willie Dynamite (who was the bald Dark guy on Sesame Street. You'll never see at Oscar the Grouch the same again) under seige from all sides, as he is residence upon by an frail flame-turned-social worker, the cops, and a wickedly droll pimp named "Bell" (played by Roger Robinson) who wants to bewitch Willie's dynamite hoes because he won't join the newly formed pimp organized front.

And my God, the outfits.

Willie sports some of the most weird stuff you've ever seen, and when he walks down a residence of courthouse stairs, prepare to be rewinding the tape a few times.

To top it all off, it has a moralty play woven throughout that you both fancy and despise: you dig it because it's icy to have a movie from that time with a apt, but without being preachy; you abhor it because it can only mean the destroy of Willie, who, despite his lifestyle, you near to like. Or maybe it's the white fez with triple tassles. I'm not clear.

But while Willie is gargantuan, the character to glimpse for is Bell, who steals every scene he's in. He's the cat that does the speech that's clipped into "American Pimp" about vision, and it's even funnier when you have it in context.

A well-done farce that pushes all the lawful buttons, and a perfect movie to stare with a bunch of your wacky friends or REALLY frigid family.

This is a very amusing comedy about the indomitable spirit of an 11-year-old junior high school girl, Dawn Wiener, played with geekish verve by Heather Matarazzo, who overcomes trusty life horrors the likes of which would accomplish war heroes shutter. How would you like to be courted by a guy whose capture up line is "I'm going to rape you at three o'clock. Be there."? Or have a mother who splits your chocolate cake in front of your watering eyes into two pieces and adds them to the plates of your brother and sister? Or have your dream lover announce you he can't be a member of your Special People Club because it's "a club for retards"?

It gets worse. You're taunted daily by choruses of "Wiener Dog!" and "Lesbo freak!" and bullied at school by everybody including some teachers and the necessary. And at home, your siblings lunge down your club house. And when you're missing from home for a day and phone home, you're told to call attend later, mom and your gross petite sister are mugging for the TV cameras.

Ah, but Dawn can overcome the night. She turns the would-be rapist into a macho-posturing minute boy who really only wants to be affectionate ("I perform the first fade!" he boasts) and demonstrates that no matter how hard they hit her, she'll be encourage tomorrow, undaunted.

Matarazzo does a spacious job, but she isn't alone. Brenden Sexton stands out as the posturing macho boy who loves her but can't admit it, as does Eric Mabius playing Steve Rogers, the self-absorbed high schooler/rock star wanna be (and Dawn's first adore) . The rest of the cast is also genuine, especially Victoria Davis in a bit portion as the foul-mouthed, sexually ambiguous 12-year-old Lolita who corners Dawn in the bathroom. Incidentally that scene in which Lolita slyly tells Dawn "You didn't approach in here to wash your hands," and insists that she do what she intended to do is impartial a tremendous part of pre adolescent camp. Another graceful (and subtle) scene is when Dawn in her bedroom hears Steve Rogers protest for the first time (in the garage with her brother's "band") . The expression on her face, as she rises up enthralled and follows the sound, suggests someone in the throes of a first awakening. And I loved the bit where Dawn, after being told by one of Steve Rogers's ex-girl friends that they "finger-...(you-know-what) " one night and that was all, is inspired to expose her finger work on the piano to Steve and then to display him her hands, fingers spread so he can study them. Of course he hasn't a clue to what she's thinking--and we're not too certain either!

Now some people may judge there is some exaggeration here, and they're upright. I mean, nobody wears a pirate's shadowy gaze patch after getting hit in the seek with a spit ball! And teachers, even terrible ones, know better than to deliberately humiliate their students (although some do it unconsciously) . Nonetheless, while the action may not be entirely realistic at times, its spirit is totally just. Objective ask anybody who remembers junior high school. Which brings me to the question: how did director and script writer, Todd Solondz, earn it so factual? Did he choose notes when he was calm in junior high to expend when he grew up? Did he acquire his daughter's diary? Clearly somebody lived this script. I'm guessing that "Dawn" is "Todd" at least in spirit, and the striking select of the psychology of the world of being twelve-years-old is due to his having been there and done that, "mammoth time," as is written on Dawn's locker.

Whatever, this beefy color world of the middle child is an adorable, witty, psychologically fair, beautifully directed and edited, masterfully conceived entertainment, winner of the Large Jury Prize at Sundance, 1996, and certain to buy your heart.

Final irony: this is a movie for and about 12-year-olds (it would appear) yet it is rated "R" and so, in finish, junior high school life is not only "not reliable" for those under thirteen, they can't even opinion it!
Let me obtain this out of the way: in grade school, I was teased. A lot. In fact, it was so dreadful that even walking to school was an emotionally and physically painful experience. I can record to every second of misery Dawn endures in the dynamite "Welcome to the Dollhouse." Most films like "Sixteen Candles" belief high school as some insulated paradise. Not this film. Here, Dawn (played by Heather Matarazzo) is as socially inept as a pre-teen girl can be. She is subject to taunts, verbal assault, and vicious mind games at the hands of her classmates. Home life isn't worthy better; her parents blissfully ignore her while they shower attention on her cutsey younger sister, Missy. They give her attention only when they glean her doing something unpleasant, which seems to be most of the time. On top of this, she develops a crush for the teenage lead singer of her brother's band. Anyone who has experienced unrequieted cherish will come by this subplot heartbreaking to notice. Despite the above, "Welcome to the Dollhouse" is a murderously laughable movie to gape, even if you were a victim of grade school teasing. The performances are dead-on and it's one of my popular movies of the 1990's.

One has to give the filmmakers an "A" for concern in trying to approach up with something a diminutive original; too awful, that most of what transpires is muddled and far from credible. Adam Taylor Gordon is very agreeable in his role of a thirteen year outmoded boy plagued with horrifying nightmares that result in his sometimes cutting himself. After spending some time under a psychiatrist's care, he is released to his recovering alcoholic father (Brian Wimmer, more effective than usual) and they head home to his estranged mother's house. An "accident" leads them into the home of mysterious farmer Lance Henriksen, giving one of his better fresh performances. It soon becomes apparent that righteous Lance has something inappropriate up his sleeve, and that the boy and his father are piece of it. Sean Young pops up as the relgiously oriented schoolmarm, offering no evidence of what was once considered a star in the making. The movie has some creepily effective moments and director (actor Don Michael Paul) makes pleasant spend of lighting and visuals for atmosphere, but by the slay of the movie, it's all so contrived, you wonder what the movie's point was. Could have been so remarkable better.

This isn't really a dreadful movie, all things considered. The actors eager turn in decent performances, and Lance Henriksen plays his particular role extremely well. The first 2/3 of the movie work really well at building a tense, base atmosphere. The loyal spot here lies in the details. There are a lot of shrimp moments in the movie that show a lack of care on the behalf of the director. There is a scene where the faded man says he listens to Mozart, and then promptly puts on a represent that sounds absolutely nothing like Mozart. There's a game of chess that the musty man ponders over for a couple of days, and then the boy beats him in one go. And then there's the tear show/presentation that a girl does in their Bible perceive class that is pleasing comical. One quandary that I had with the movie is that it kind of aims itself at a Christian market, but anyone with knowledge of the Bible would know how ridiculous the situation is. The Garden of Eden, for example, is supposed to be guarded so that humans can't enter it, and it definitely isn't anywhere advance Oklahoma. And since the devil already got a human to eat from the Tree of Knowledge in the book of Genesis, it doesn't create noteworthy sense that his doing it again would finish powerful. Also, I'm attractive positive the four horsemen aren't supposed to signal the beginning of the apocalypse by riding out of some guy's barn. Overall I can't assist but judge that this space might have been hatched while someone was watching Dogma.
